You do not need an illustration to start. Mesh Avatar Studio ships a --random mode where a coding agent (Codex CLI) first draws an anime-style character, then builds the avatar from her automatically.
The commands
npm run create -- --random
npm run create -- --random --prompt "silver short hair, school uniform"
--random— the agent draws a new anime-style girl with randomly chosen looks, then runs the full avatar pipeline on her.--prompt "..."— describe what you want instead of leaving it random.--seed <number>— repeat the same random choices; the same seed gives the same character.
The drawing is kept in work/random/ and the choices in projects/<name>/work/character.json.
Prerequisites
- The Codex CLI installed and signed in — image generation is what draws the character.
- The same Node.js 22.17+ setup as always — see the installation guide.
Note: generating the character sends a prompt to OpenAI image generation. The command asks before sending; --no-variants keeps later steps local.
Then what?
From here the workflow is identical to using your own illustration: the agent builds the rig, you fine-tune in the editor, and optional drawn variants make blinking and talking look natural. Continue with the 4-step creation guide.
Tips
- Same seed, same girl: note the seed number when you like a result —
--seedreproduces her. - Combining
--promptwith--seedpins the random parts while your prompt directs the described parts. - The generated drawing lands in
work/random/— you can reuse it as a normal illustration for other projects.
