Export a .mavatar file
In the editor, choose Export .mavatar to download one file containing:
- the saved rig,
- the built layers,
- drawn expressions and variants,
- avatar metadata — including your lip-sync settings.
Include source image is on by default, so the recipient can edit the avatar in Studio; unchecking it makes a smaller file that can play but not be edited or rebuilt. If you have unsaved edits, use Save and export; changed outlines need a layer rebuild first. Read-only views export the original files.
Import
In Open project, choose Import .mavatar or simply drop the file there. Studio creates a new folder under projects/, using a fresh name if one already exists. Notes:
- Import requires the development server running (
npm run dev). - Archives up to 128 MiB are accepted.
- Without the source image, the avatar can play but cannot be edited or rebuilt; omitting the source does not remove the built images.
Sharing workflows
- Friend just wants to watch it move: they can open your file in the browser Player — no install.
- Collaborator wants to tweak it: export with source image; they import into their own Studio.
- Streaming with the file elsewhere: the stream view accepts an
avatarparameter pointing to a.mavatarURL on the same origin as the local server.
What is inside (technical)
The archive carries the manifest (avatar.json), the built layers metadata, sprite and overlay metadata, and compatibility rules — the official format documentation specifies file layouts and validation in full.
